Group for Education of Children with Special Needs

This division is mainly for students who want to become teachers in special schools, special classes, or resource units for children with mental and other developmental disabilities. We also provide a training course for mainstream class teachers. In these courses, students take lessons in psychology, education, instructional methods for children with disabilities, and various teaching programs. It is important to understand psychology and practical teaching programs concerning children with handicaps and to become aware of the educational system and services.

Each year, we accept 20 undergraduate students. Five distinguished professors as your supervisor will give lectures and seminars in various areas of special education. Most of our students primarily research the experimental, practical, and clinical study of children with developmental disabilities. When students complete their studies, they can apply for either of two professional qualifications. One is the teaching qualification to be a teacher at special schools, and the other is to be a teacher at mainstream primary or junior high schools.

Many graduates become teachers at special schools. Some become care officers in educational or welfare facilities for people with handicaps, while others go on to graduate school.
