Group for Music Education

The music department offers a Bachelor of Education in Elementary Education (Music) and in Secondary Education (Music), and it offers a program leading to a Master of Education with a focus on music education.

The department consists of one chair: Music Education. There are eight full-time professors and several part-time lecturers. The department is housed in the music building, including studios and facilities for practice and rehearsal.

The department consists of four sections: Vocal Music, Instrumental Music (Piano Performance), Composition and Conducting, and Research on Music Education. In the Vocal Music field, we conduct research into opera performance, musical performance, singing methods (Japanese songs, German lieder, Italian songs, etc.), and vocalization methods. In the Instrumental Music (Piano Performance) field, we conduct research into the practice of piano music, piano accompaniment, piano ensemble, etc. In the Composition and Conducting field, we conduct research into practice in composition, practice in conducting, and analysis of music. In the field of Research on Music Education, we research teaching materials and methods for music education, the curriculum of music education, classroom lessons in school, and the history of music education.

HONDA Sahomi is a Professor with research interests in Research on Music Education. Associate Professor HONDA teaches on the doctor's course in the United Graduate School of Education.

KUSUMI Shoichiro is a Professor with research interests in Research on Vocal music.
