Group for Educational Psychology

Educational Psychology is one of the 11 departments that students can join to acquire a certificate to become an elementary school teacher. Six distinguished staff members give lectures and seminars in educational psychology, developmental psychology, psychology of learning, etc. They also help students with their theses, which are a requirement in the fourth year of their studies. By taking this course, students are not only able to acquire psychological knowledge but also to learn basic methodology such as experimental design, questionnaire construction, and interview techniques to study the human mind and behavior, a process which is useful for efficient teaching as well as understanding and managing school-related problems such as school bullying and delinquency.

Students will learn (1) how children develop in general and how they should be taught and helped to grow up, and (2) what types of problems arise regarding children’s school life and how these problems should be treated and solved. In short, students are expected to become well-trained teachers who can teach and help school children from both an academic and psychological point of view. Students must earn 124 or more credit units in the fundamental subjects of education, specialized basic subjects, specialized subjects, and optional subjects. A thesis must be completed in educational psychology.
