Group for Education in Social Studies

The Social Studies Department covers a wide range of disciplines:

  • Geography (human geography, physical geography, regional geography)
  • History (Japanese history, European history)
  • Law/Political Science
  • Sociology, Economics
  • Philosophy/Ethics
  • Social Studies Education

The Social Studies courses cover a wide range of disciplines, through which we can cooperate in interdisciplinary issues to make study and teaching in these fields more effective and creative. By studying these fields, students can obtain wide cultural knowledge and training to become elementary school teachers, junior high school teachers of social studies, and senior high school teachers of geography, history, and civics.

TODA Yoshiharu (M.Ed) is a Professor with research interests in Historical Education. Professor TODA teaches on the doctor's course in the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences.

UMEDA Katsuki (Ph.D.) is an Associate Professor with research interests in Human Geography. Associate Professor UMEDA teaches on the doctor's course in the Graduate School of Horticulture.

SEO Yasuhiko (Ph.D. in Economics, Kyoto University) is an Associate Professor with research interests in International Political Economy and Development Studies.

SAWADA Noriko is a Professor with research interests in Ancient History of the Western world.

KOSEKI Yuichiro is an Associate Professor with research interests in Japanese History.

SAKAUE Hiroaki is an Associate Professor of social studies education. His research interests include geography education, geography didactics in Germany, and Education for Sustainable Development.

YAMAMOTO Kyoko is an Assistant professor with research interests in Japanese Constitutional Law.
