Group for Art Education

Group for Art Education

This department consists of eight branches: Painting A, Painting B, Sculpture A, Sculpture B, Design, Craft, Philosophy, and the History of Arts and Art Education. Therefore, it covers various spheres, from the practice of fine arts, craft, and design to the theories of art and design. In the fields of painting and sculpture, traditional and modern techniques are investigated, such as tempera, fresco, mosaic, Japanese painting, clay modeling, and metal welding. In the field of craft, some materials such as wood, clay, and metal are used experimentally. The subjects in the sphere of design introduce the practical/theoretical inquiry of optical perception and the principles of plane-formative activities. Aesthetic-theoretical problems of modern and contemporary society and culture are the main themes in the sphere of the philosophy and history of art and design. The sphere of art education is synthetic, as it attempts to integrate all the above-mentioned activities from an educational standpoint. This department provides students with basic and general knowledge and experience in art and design to foster the skills necessary for becoming art teachers and educators. To cultivate their creative and active potential, our students are required to investigate a particular theme in any of the spheres/branches. Thus, the abilities and attitudes that are to be cultivated in this department are applicable not only to work as an art teacher in a school, but also for other professions that involve art-educational elements.
